First Connecticut Big Smoke a Success
The first Cigar Aficionado Big Smoke held in the state of Connecticut was a success, drawing more than 1,100 cigar enthusiasts from the Nutmeg State, Massachusettes, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire and other states in the area. The exciting, posh venue, the new MGM Grand Resort at Foxwoods, provided a luxurious 50,000 square-foot ballroom that was transformed on April 18 into a cigar lovers' paradise.
The aficionados in attendance stuffed their canvas bags with 28 premium cigars, many of them handed out personally by the owners of the brand: Alec Bradley Maxx, Arturo Fuente, Ashton Classic, A. Turrent Six Generations, C.A.O. Mx2, Cabaiguan, Carlos Toraño Exodus 1959, Casa Magna Colorado, Cusano Habano, Defiance by XIKAR, DiFazio, Don Pepin Garcia Blue or Black Label, El Tiante 23, Flavours by C.A.O., Havana Honeys, La Aurora 1495, La Flor Dominicana Ligero, La Gloria Cubana, Macanudo 1968, Nub, Oliva Serie G, Padrón, Rocky Patel Renaissance, San Cristobal, Savinelli Special Selection 2005, Tabacos Baez, Tatuaje Havana VI, and Te-Amo World Selection.
The smoky, three-hour party also featured a treasure trove of fine spirits and libations: Glenkinchie, Lagavulin, Cragganmore, Talisker, Oban, Dalwhinnie and the Glenlivet single-malt Scotches; Martinis made from Bombay Sapphire Gin; Zacapa, Mount Gay and Ron Matusalem rums; Crown Royal Canadian Whisky; Patrón, El Mayor, and Milagro tequilas; Rémy Martin Cognac; Beringer wines and frosty Samuel Adams beer.
The MGM Grand hotel, located in eastern Connecticut near the borders of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, features 825 guest rooms, 1,400 slot machines, 60 table games, several fine restaurants, including Tom Colicchio's CraftSteak, two world class golf courses and much more.
