Cigar Lounge Provide Safe Haven for Smokers
Since the tobacco law took effect January first, there are few "safe havens" where people can smoke together in a public setting. Don Bubba Cigars in Peoria is one exception.
Known to friends as "Bubba", Ian Farquharson opened his cigar-hookah shop and lounge about six months ago as a place for smokers to gather and relax.
The lounge is not subject to the new law, since 80% of its sales comes from tobacco or tobacco-related products.
In addition to a large selection of cigars, tobacco and hookahs, bubba sells light snacks and strong Cuban coffee.
"The hookah lounge added to the tobacco stores- it's a place people can come, relax, hear relaxing music, smoke a hookah- all they have to do is buy their tobacco," Farquharson said.
Bubba also offers free Wi-Fi Internet access, and karaoke on the weekends.
